The Web as a source of fun
The World Wide Web can be used for so much! You can get information, contact friends, watch TV shows you may have missed — and play games! One can play online games either with virtual opponents or with others who are also online.
There is hardly a game played by man that has not found its way onto the web. Checkers, chess, Chinese checkers, solitaire, mah jongg, Monopoly — all of these games can be played somewhere online. Not only are their pages devoted exclusively to online games, but many sites created for other purposes, such as that of Reader's Digest, also include them — or at least did once: You could play mah jongg and Jewel Quest, among others.
Not all games can be played free. In some places you can download a free trial, after which you must pay to continue playing in the future.
In one online version of Monopoly, the user can play with opponents represented by the various tokens in the game. Each one has its own voice and personality. The dog token, for instance, whenever it had to pay, would say in a cute childlike voice, "It's still money!"
The ancient Egyptians played a game called senet — and that's available online too! You can download it at the British site ancientegypt. Besides playing these games you can also download an app so that you can play it on your iPhone or android such as HTC Sensation smartphone.
On the official sites of TV stations — notably USA Network — you can play puzzle games involving characters from your favorite shows. The page for "Monk" offered all sorts of games in which you had to adjust things in various settings — in the character's room, on the table in the restaurant, and the like — so that they were as the obsessive-compulsive detective liked them to be. There was also Character Mah Jongg, Character Memory, Character Sudoku… The list is almost endless.
Facebook has become one of the best place to play online games. People can invite their friends to play such games as Farm Town, in which players harvest their crops, sell them, and even send friends "gifts."
Online games are a marvelous thing indeed! But take care — you may become addicted! At the end of the day, there is nothing like playing a game, like casino roulette with real friends in the good old-fashioned way.
